I’m Eric Franklin, and I started this Slip-On Shoes because I got tired of tying my shoes and of slip-ons that looked great but would easily slip off my feet if I ran. Since 2021, I’ve worn almost exclusively hands-free slip-ons—especially Kizik—so I built this site to document what actually works after months of regular wear.

I mostly review Kizik slip-on shoes for men, but I’ll cover any slip-on that’s truly worth wearing.

If you want a quick starting point, check my “Best Slip-On Shoes” guide.

How I test shoes

I test shoes the way most people actually wear them: school drop-offs, errands, walking around town, travel days, and long stretches on my feet. I pay special attention to what changes after the “honeymoon phase”: many products feel great on day one and fall apart by week six.

  • Step-in/hands-free performance: Does it remain easy to step into over time, or does it loosen and feel sloppy?
  • Comfort after hours: Not “first 10 minutes comfort” — I mean how they feel after a full day.
  • Fit & sizing notes: Any heel slip, pressure points, toe crowding, chafing, or sizing weirdness compared to normal sneakers.
  • Support & stability: Arch support and how stable they feel on quick turns, stairs, and uneven sidewalks.
  • Breathability: Do my feet overheat? Do socks get damp faster than they should?
  • Build quality & wear patterns: outsole wear, heel collapse, stitching, and the rubber edge that can start to flake or separate.
  • Real-world versatility: What I’d actually wear them for (gym, casual office, walking, travel, etc.).

Why You Can Trust My Reviews

Before starting this site, I spent 25 years at CNET working on product reviews (see my background here). I was the Editorial Director overseeing CNET Reviews for about a year, and before that, I led the Mobile Reviews team for roughly six years. I also managed CNET Labs for a decade, where I oversaw much of the product testing process behind our reviews.

That background trained me to test products systematically, explain tradeoffs clearly, and write reviews that stay useful after the hype fades. On this site, my recommendations are based on shoes I’ve personally worn: errands, long days on my feet, travel, and everyday routines.
